Privacy policy
Last updated: 2026-10-07
This policy explains what information Betna Market stores about you, why, who can see it, and what you can demand. It describes the app as it works today.
Who is responsible
Betna Market is operated by Freweini Mengs Teweldebrhan. She is the data controller for your information and can be reached at post@betnamarket.com.
Postal address: Søsterveien 21, 1474 Lørenskog
What we store
We store only what the app actually uses. Everything is listed below, grouped by what it is used for.
- Account: name, email address, and phone number if you provide one. Country, city, profile picture and a short bio if you fill them in.
- Listings: title, description, images, price, size, colour and the location you enter. All of this is public — that is the point of a listing.
- Orders: what you bought, from whom, price, quantity, delivery method and the delivery details you enter at checkout (name, address, postal code and city).
- Messages: what you write to another user, and who the conversation is between.
- Reviews, questions on listings and returns — including the explanation and any images you upload in a return case.
- Favourites and shopping cart.
- Payouts to sellers: amount, status and time. Your account number is not stored with us — you give it to Stripe in their own form.
- Who viewed a listing, if you are signed in. We store it only to stop anyone from filling the popularity list themselves by opening their own listing over and over. It is deleted automatically after 14 days and is used for nothing else — not for recommendations, not for advertising, and it is never shown to the seller. If you are not signed in, nothing about who you are is stored.
What we do not store
- Card numbers, expiry dates or CVC codes. Payment goes through Stripe, and card details are entered on Stripe's own page. They do not pass through Betna Market at all — not even as something that touches our browser code on the way.
Why we store it
- To fulfil our agreement with you: accounts, listings, orders, messages and returns cannot work without the information above.
- To keep the marketplace safe: we must be able to investigate a reported listing or a complaint, and suspend an account that misuses the service.
- Because the law requires it: information related to sales and payouts must be documentable afterwards.
Who sees what
This is the most important section, so it is stated plainly:
- Anyone can see your listings, your name, your profile picture and the reviews you have received as a seller.
- The seller you buy from sees your delivery details. This is necessary for the package to arrive. No other user sees them.
- Messages are seen only by the two people in the conversation. This is enforced in the database, not only in the app — a user simply cannot retrieve someone else's messages.
- If a conversation is reported, Betna Market may read it in order to resolve the case. Reading is possible only while the case is open, and each time it happens it is recorded in a log that cannot be altered afterwards.
- Your email address and phone number are not shown to other users.
- The administrator can see what is needed to investigate a case — for example a reported listing or a return dispute. The administrator has no access to payment details or your bank account.
Which providers we use
We do not run servers ourselves. The site, the database, the email notifications and the payments are handled by providers that process information on our behalf.
- Payments go through Stripe. That is why your card number is never handled by us. Stripe also verifies the seller's identity and holds their account number — we see neither.
- The email notifications contain the item name, the order number and the amount — but never the content of a message.
The database is located in the region: Ireland (eu-west-1), within the EU.
How long we keep it
- Your account is stored for as long as you have it. If you delete your account, we delete your profile.
- Orders and payouts must be retained even after deletion, because accounting law requires it. They are then no longer linked to an active account.
- Listings you remove are archived rather than deleted, so that old orders still make sense to the buyer. They no longer appear in the marketplace.
Your rights
Most of it you can do yourself, right away. Under Settings you can delete your account — your profile is emptied at once, and the login disappears. In your profile you can correct your name, location and the rest of what we hold about you.
If you want access to everything we have stored about you, or your information handed over in a common file format, email post@betnamarket.com. We answer as quickly as we can, and within 30 days at the latest.
If you believe we handle your information improperly, you may complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (datatilsynet.no). You do not need to go through us first.
Age limit
You must be at least 15 years old to create an account yourself. If you are under 18, you should speak with a parent before buying or selling anything.
Changes
If we change anything substantial in this policy, we will say so in the app. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
